Feather Designing and the Art and Stitch Experience
Creating feather designs on paper and in a
digitizing program called Art and Stitch go hand in hand. Judy
Allen's love of feather designing began with creating designs on
paper first, then in Art and Stitch, a wonderful digitizing program
for computerized quilting and embroidery systems.
Judy Allen is a certified Art and Stitch teacher, the second one in the United States. Twin sister Joanne Flood was first. Judy is offering a series of classes for Feather designing, Curved Cross Hatching as well as the basics to advanced instructions of the Art and Stitch program. This program is so easy to learn and if I can learn, it anyone can. Judy loves to travel and has taught nationally and internationally and now offers classes on location, in person in her new studio, and now through the stay at home Zoom program. Judy will be teaching her famous feather designing process, showcasing her curved cross-hatching, framework, and, bridgework techniques. As a feather pattern designer, she has found how wonderful the circle tools she uses to create the feathers on paper are complimented by the three-point arc drawing tool within the Art and Stitch program. Students may learn to draw on paper first, enabling the designer to gain an understanding of how the feathers move and flow along a centerline. With the various design exercises presented to the student, they will then have a greater ability to know how and where to place the feather head and spine connectors of the feather shape.

Have you long admired those beautiful feather designs created by others but your attempt has been met with disappointment? Let Judy show you how easy it is to create a feather design for any space or shape through a series of design exercises. Don’t let the word “drawing” discourage you. If you can trace around a circle, you can take this class. Whether you hand quilt, freehand, or use a computerized quilting system, you too can create beautiful feather designs for any space you need to fill.
Judy will be teaching a series of feather design exercises for creating the feather shape, as well as the feather design itself, using a set of three circle templates. The student will be working on the design exercises right along with Judy. They begin with: a straight line, then circles, hearts, paisleys, and swags just to name a few shapes that the student will create and can be used for placement in a quilt.
The Class Fee
is $180.00 for three sessions
and
the fourth one is free. Judy has created a kit that is a
must for this class. In the
kit
are the three circle templates, all the drawing tools needed
to
create
the feather designs and over 50 pages of handouts that
will be
used in class. The kit fee is $50.00 plus
postage.
Judy uses PayPal or Squareup for invoicing
so

to create beautiful feather designs.
